By Steven Zeitchik George Tillman is in final negotiations to helm "Faster," the Dwayne Johnson-toplined revenge drama. Phil Joanou, who worked with Johnson on football coming-of-age story "Gridiron Gang," had previously been attached to direct but fell off the project. CBS Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group are co-producing the pic. "Faster" centers on Johnson, an ex-con named Driver who seeks to avenge the death of his brother in a bothcd heist fifteen years earlier. He winds up hunting down those responsible for his brother's death even as he's pursued by several men bent on killing him. CBS and Sony aim to begin shooting in January. Joe and Tony Gayton penned the screenplay. Castle Rock's Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer will produce. Tony Gayton will also produce, while Joe Gayton will exec produce. The CAA-repped Tillman is best known for helming the military drama "Men of Honor" and the urban breakout "Soul Food." He most recently directed rap biopic "Notorious," which Fox Searchlight released to $37 million in box office earlier this year.
